Reduce heat-generating sources for keeping the house cool

Most people end up spending heavily on various types' of air coolers and air conditioners for house cooling during summers. However house cooling can also be achieved using simple precautions and simple methods which will cost nothing. Instead of stopping the hot air for coming in the home or by creating cool air indoors for cooling, one can keep the house cool easily by reducing and heat generating sources within the house.

Heat generating sources within the house

Most of us are unaware of the various heat generating sources within the house. If they are controlled properly indoor temperatures can be controlled considerably. Lights, and household appliances, such as ovens and dishwashers and dryers are common heat sources of heat gain and often overlooked.

How to reduce these sources

Most energy used by lamps and bulbs is given off as heat. Thus to reduce this heat one should make a maximum use of daylight to illuminate the house. Use of compact florescent lights will reduce the energy consumption from 75%, and also emit 90% less heat for the same amount of light.
Similar to lamps even household equipments generate a lot of heat. Try to use these equipments only during the morning or in late evenings when the temperatures are low and the extra heat can be tolerated better. Use an outside barbeque grill or a microwave oven, which does not generate much heat as compared to the gas or electric range. In addition to these washers, dryers, dishwashers and water heaters and generators also generate large amount of heats and humidity. To reduce heat from these sources, seal off the laundry room and water heaters from the rest of the house.

Take care when purchasing electronic equipments

To avoid heating troubles later on one it is advisable to buy energy efficient appliances that generate less heat and use less energy. While buying any equipment compare the Energy Guide label which indicates the annual estimated cost for operating the appliance or a standardized energy efficiency ratio. This evaluation will help to buy the equipment which consumes least energy and generates least heat.
