Extruded landscape curbing
Installing extruded curbing: Extruded curbing can be installed in just a few days, or sometimes can be completed in a day. However, there are certain precautions that need to be taken before, during and after installation. Experts recommend that sprinklers should be kept off two to three days before installation. The best time to install curbing is before installation of the irrigation lines. The area should be clean, and marking of all wires, telephone connections etc. should be done to avoid any damage. During the installation period it is recommended to keep inquisitive pets inside. The process of installation usually involves mixing colour and concrete in proportion to create a uniform pattern. Sometimes excess concrete can be left which must be picked up a day or two after the curbing process. After installation, it should be remembered not to sprinkle or moist the curb with water as it can damage or discolour the curb. Almost all activities like sprinkling, mowing, or raking should not be done immediately after installation. All sharp equipments should be kept away from the curbs. In case, there is any other work going on in your landscape, extreme precaution should be taken to avoid damage. Heavy equipments should be out of bounds. Children and pets should not be allowed on the curb unsupervised for a few days. Advantages: Extruded curbing provides a permanent landscape border adding beauty to almost any type of landscape. It is extremely durable, functional and is less expensive compared to other types of edging. Unlike wood, brick or plastic edging, it requires less maintenance and provides an effective root barrier. The value of your property can also increase substantially. Disadvantages: Poor quality material can cause the curbs to fade prematurely. Sometimes due to excessive use of sprinklers, efflorescence can result, leaving a white powder like substance on your curbs. Certain fertilizers and chemicals can also lead to significant damage. Extruded curbing can sometimes crack after installation. However, some of the disadvantages are taken care by any manufacturer's warranty scheme while others can be avoided by taking a few precautions.
