Compost Bins Wood.
Wooden compost bins Wooden compost bins provides insulation. Thus, the chances of the material getting wet are minimum. However, the type of wood used while making the bin is very important. Commercially, very rarely good quality wood is used. Therefore, making a wooden compost bin is much better than buying it. Many wooden bins are available. Simplest is the wooden structure built without floor or roof. Usually there is some space left between two wooden boards to allow air to pass through to the pile from all sides. There is a divider placed in the front, which can be pulled down to take out the finished compost. Another example of wooden bin is the wooden pallet bin. In this, four used wooden pallets are wired together for constructing the bin, with one removal side to turn the compost easily. Apart from these, portable wooden bins and wood and wire three bin systems are popular. Advantages: Wooden compost bins especially portable bins are very flexible. They fit well into small spaces and are excellent for holding yard wastes. Piles can be easily turned. They can also be used to harvest finished compost and build a new pile. They look better than plastic or bins made out of chicken wires. Using wooden bins is especially useful if you have a lot of waste to decompose. The process of composting is faster in these bins, due to greater aeration and controlled moisture. The finished compost is easily accessed and scooped up. There is greater airflow thus, bad odor is controlled. If made at home, any recyclable wood can be used. By Doing this not only the wasted wood like planks get used, but also the expenses decrease as well. Disadvantages: Using wood to build bins is not always easy. Some prefer plastic bins due to greater variety in design. Wood especially, old wood can rot easily. Wooden bins can also attract termites and other rodents. Constructing these bins is not easy and may require some skill. Commercial wooden bins are expensive and unreliable. However, barring a few disadvantages, a wooden compost bin, is considered the best equipment for composting.
